Love & Lullabies

Plays

Love and Lullabies is a fast-paced, tragic-comic play about love, sex, and parenthood amongst young people today.

Designed to provoke discussion in schools about teenage pregnancy, the intricate almost farcical plot of Love and Lullabies ranges far wider than that – taking in the difficulties of multi-cultural relationships and single-parenthood, and confronting head-on the inevitable hypocrisies of an older generation trying to make children conform to standards it has difficulty meeting itself.

There are no heroes or villains in Love and Lullabies and no poe-faced preaching or sermonising. The audience is encouraged to come to its own conclusions after watching characters of different ages and cultures making mistakes, whilst trying all the time to make it right.

Love and Lullabies is aimed at young people aged 13-14. It could also be used to help facilitate discussion and learning amongst parents and to train teachers and workers. Each performance fits into a 75 minute session, which includes character ‘hot-seating’ and open questions – all of which is facilitated by the company. There is a specially written resource pack to support follow up work.
