Welcome to the website for GW Theatre Company,
Over the last 24 years the company has produced 24 original productions tackling illegal drug misuse, teenage drinking, teenage parenthood, community cohesion, racism, domestic violence, mental health and car crime, proving to even the hardest sceptics that live theatre can have a tremendous impact and is a very powerful educational tool for engaging both young and adult audiences. As well as delivering an intensive touring programme GW is also Theatre Company-in-Residence at Mossley Hollins High School in Tameside, Greater Manchester.
The company's flagship production for the last three years has been the award winning One Extreme to the Other by Mike Harris. After over 300 performances to over 45,000 people this project is now widely regarded as a leading piece of excellent practice and is currently touring nationally to schools, colleges and community venues. The project has been acclaimed by young people, professionals and the government as piece of work that actually makes a difference in challenging extremism, particularly that in the name of Islam and from the far-right.
The play tackles religious, racial and political extremism as well as exploring class, national identity, racism and race, and is supported by a comprehensive web based resource to support teachers, professionals and young people who have seen the play. With a three year government grant coming to an end in March 2011 the company is seeking further funding to sustain this hugely successful project with the aim of getting the play and the resources into every school in the UK.
